Opening of Accounts

Resident Companies (Local Currency and/or Foreign Currency)

Minimum documentation required

  • Account Application Form
  • Signature Sheet
  • Economic Information (KYC)
  • Articles of Association
  • Deeds of Authorisation
  • Certificate of entry in the Commercial Register
  • Photocopy of the CIF card (Fiscal Identification Code)
  • Photocopy of the DNI (National Identity Card)/Passports of the proxies
  • Letter of introduction from another bank

*For those banks with which there is a bilateral agreement (Santander UK and Santander US - Sovereign)

Currency

EUR and others. Unless Treasury blocks a currency, in all those which are officially traded

Is a local proxy required?

Does the signature of the opening contract require physical presence? If the answer is NO, what are the alternatives?

  • YES
  • NOTE: Not needed for banks with a specific agreement (bilateral or IBOS). In other cases the intervention and validation of the client's office in the introducing bank is required.

Other requirements/restrictions

On receipt of all documentation, it must be sent to the Legal Department for review and the granting of powers of proxy. IMPORTANT NOTE: A copy of the documentation must be sent to the digitalisation department for scanning and archiving. In the event that any fault is found in the documentation, this may lead to a block on the account.

NON-Resident Companies (in EUR and other currencies)

Minimum documentation required*

  • Nonresident Product Request
  • Signature Sheet
  • Economic Information (KYC)
  • Tax Residency Statement
  • Certificate of entry in the Commercial Register (from the Country of Origin)*
  • Articles of Association (or equivalent legal document)*
  • Deeds of Authorisation (or equivalent legal document)*
  • Photocopy of passport/DNI of proxies
  • A copy of the Annual Accounts (Balance Sheet)

*The Hague Convention Apostille is required on public documents from the following DNI countries: AR/CO/DE/EN/PE/PL/PR/PT/UK/U.S./UY

IMPORTANT NOTE: Introducing bank stamp and signature on all documents.

For DNI countries that are not part of the Hague Apostille Convention the documents must be authenticated at source. The traditional method is called legalisation:

  • (BR) Documents issued in Brazil must be legalised in Brazil, in the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Consular Assistance Division - DAC)", and then, at the Embassy/Consulate of Spain. (Source: Consulate General of Brazil in Madrid)
  • (CL) For the documents issued in Chile to be valid abroad, they must be certified by the competent national authority and legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and the relevant foreign consulate accredited to Chile. (Source: Consulate General of Chile in Madrid)

*All deeds and documents of the proxies have to go through assessors (Legal Services) for approval prior to the opening.
