Santander Totta is a bank in the Portuguese financial sector, with a broad customer base and over 600 branches spread across the country.

Grupo Santander’s presence in Portugal dates back to 1988, the year it purchased a stake of about 10% in Banco do Comércio e Indústria (BCI). This increased through an IPO to 78% in 1993, at which point Banco Santander de Negócios Portugal (BSNP) was established. In April 2000, having signed an agreement with Senhor António Champalimaud and Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), Grupo Santander acquired control of Banco Totta (which itself owned Crédito Predial Português). At the end of 2012, Santander Totta had net profits of 250.2 million euros, with credits amounting to 26,942 million euros and reserves of 27,054 million euros, with a Core Capital ratio of 12.3%, well above the minimum required by the Bank of Portugal (10%); this without having to raise any new capital and achieved solely with existing resources, reflecting the bank’s continuing positive performance in the domestic banking sector, despite the economic situation and trends in the financial system. The Tier I ratio stood at 13.3%.

During 2012, Santander Totta was awarded a number of prizes, amongst which these stand out: \"Best Bank in Portugal\" awarded by Euromoney magazine, under the Euromoney Awards for Excellence, \"Bank of the Year in Portugal\" awarded by The Banker magazine, \"Best Bank in Portugal\" awarded by Global Finance magazine and \"Soundest Large Bank\" awarded by Exame magazine.

In each country where Santander has a presence, there is an International Desk that supports its network of businesses, where each international process has a dedicated channel which makes the process faster, with the enquirer allocated to the correct destination and international processes information is centralised within the Group.
