Export of local currency is also prohibited, except for passengers proceeding to Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However Indian residents when they go abroad are allowed to take with them Indian currency not exceeding 5,000 INR.

It is recommended that everyone 16 years of age and older should get fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before travel and present, if necessary, evidence of COVID-19 vaccination at the border. The updated information on all health entry requirements as well as on routine and recommended vaccines for India are provided on the dedicated pages on TravelHealthPro and CDC websites.
Travelers over 9 months of age arriving from Sub-Saharan Africa or other yellow fever areas must have evidence of vaccination against yellow fever. The following vaccines are strongly recommended: tetanus, diphtheria, typhoid fever, chickenpox, influenza, measles, hepatitis A and B, meningococcal disease, cholera and poliomyelitis. Risk of malaria exists. Other diseases like Dengue fever are present. H5N1 avian influenza has been identified among birds in this country. Drinking tap water is not recommended.

- Petty crime is common, particularly in trains and buses. Pickpockets can be very adept. Air travelers are advised to carefully watch their bags in the arrival and departure areas outside the airports. However crime, especially directed against foreigners, has traditionally been uncommon.

River floods are the most frequent natural disasters faced by the country. Shortfall in the rainfall causes droughts in many parts of the country. The country has also faced some severe earthquakes. India is also prone to very severe cyclonic formations in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
