Opening of accounts

Resident Companies (Euro and/or other currencies)

Documentation minimum required (company)

Documents provided by the bank and signed by the client:

  • Client Sheet - Collective Persons
  • General Conditions
  • Signature Sheet
  • Record of Representative - Required if the persons signing are not directors or managers.
  • A form of the bank that is completed by the company with the identification of holders of equity and voting rights equal to or greater than 25% - Identification of Beneficial Owner
  • Standardised Information Sheet (FIN)
  • Statement of Receipt of Documentation

Documents to be submitted to the bank:

  • Public Deed stating the valid Tax Identification Number "TIN" (Example: Certificate of Registration, Certificate of Land Registration, Notarial Deed, Settlement Note, IRC) etc..
  • Legal documents of the company

Minimum documentation required (representatives)

  • Civil Identification Document (Citizenship Card, or ID, or Passport or Residence Permit in Portugal, other if valid)
  • Proof of primary residence (in the case of the Organic Representative the registered office of the Legal Person can be used)
  • Proof of Profession and Employer: i) in the case of the organic representative this can be the profession corresponding to the position (manager; director, etc..) and the company as the employer; ii) requires proof (if different profession or employer indicated)
  • Number of Fiscal Identificación "NIF" (mandatory for residents)
  • Powers of Attorney (original or certified copy)

Currency

EUR, AUD, CAD, DKK, SEK, NOK, JPY, NZD, CAD, CHF, GBP, USD, PLN, MXN

Person responsible for the receipt of documents and supplementation of the file

Account/Business Centre Manager where the account is assigned.

Time it takes for the account to be validated?

  • 3 days from the confirmation of acceptance of all documents.

Is a local proxy required?

No

Does the signature of the opening contract require physical presence?

Yes, although there are some exceptions:

  • Opening IBOS does not require physical presence
  • Other situations, for example, customers of Santander in other regions

Other requirements/restrictions

  • Banco Santander Totta is a party to the IBOS agreement, allowing the opening of accounts by this mechanism through its member banks
  • Depending on the country of origin for agents/attorneys, documentation may exist which requires a prior analysis from the legal department of the bank.

NON-Resident Companies

Documentation minimum required (company)

Documents provided by the bank and signed by the client:

  • Client Form - Legal Entities
  • General Conditions
  • Signature Sheet
  • Record of Representative - Required if the persons signing are not directors or managers
  • A form of the bank that is completed by the company with the identification of holders of equity and voting rights equal to or greater than 25% - Identification of Beneficial Owner
  • Standardised Information Sheet (FIN)
  • Statement of Receipt of Documentation
  • Authorization to the bank asking for the NIF of a Non Resident
  • For an IBOS account, a Power of Attorney is also required
  • Know Your Customer (Form IC) - Internal document which is not signed by the client

Documents to be submitted to the bank:

  • Legal documents of companies duly certified (foreign language documents must also be accompanied by a duly certified translation)

Minimum documentation required (representatives and proxies)

  • Civil Identification Document (Citizenship Card, or ID, or Passport or Residence Permit in Portugal, other if valid)
  • Proof of primary residence (in the case of the organic Representative the registered office of the Legal Person can be used)
  • Proof of Profession and Employer: i) in the case of the organic representative the profession corresponding to the position may be assumed (manager; director, etc..) and the company as the employer; ii) requires proof (if different profession or employer indicated)
  • Number of Fiscal Identificación "NIF" (mandatory for residents)
  • Powers of Attorney (original or certified copy)

  • For countries not belonging to the Hague Convention, the bank that introduces the client must send a letter on its letterhead confirming the representatives and officials of the company who have signed
  • Depending on the country of origin for agents/proxies, documentation may exist which requires a prior analysis from the legal department of the bank.
